2025 Recipients of the Staff Sergeant Alvin P. Carey, Private John C. Ewing, and Blacksmith Henry W.B. Mechlin Medal of Honor Scholarship

The Medal of Honor Scholarship Committee is pleased to recognize the four recipients of the 2025 Medal of Honor Scholarship. Each student is to be commended for his or her work ethic, extracurricular school activities, community service, and demonstrated leadership. The Scholarship Committee is pleased to provide each recipient with a $2,500 scholarship to continue his or her education. Seven scholarships have been awarded since the Medal of Honor Scholarship was founded in October 2022.

Avery Glessner of Greater Latrobe High School is attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Jeffrey Craig (grandson of Private Ewing’s nephew), Avery Glessner (Medal of Honor Scholarship recipient), and Craig Minnick, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, Retired (Founder of the Medal of Honor Scholarship).
Wade Lamont of Ligonier Valley High School is attending Penn State Behrend.
Allyson Steffey of Ligonier Valley High School is attending the University of Pittsburgh.

Seth Painter of Mount Pleasant Area High School is attending Pennsylvania State University.
